HOTELS - new Fire Safety Plan Format now in effect





       If you've visited us before and want to know what's changed, take a look here first.

 The NYC Fire Department has just notified us that effective April 1st, 2013, individuals wishing to take a Certificate of Fitness exam for F-58 (Fire Safety Director), F-59 (EAP Director), Z-50, Z-59, and others, must do so BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. No more walk-ins.

The Fire Department writes:

No walk-in applicants for FSD, EAP, Refrigeration, CSFSM and S-98 will be accepted after 4-1-13.

Starting on April 1, 2013, the Certificate of Fitness Unit will start conducting exams from Monday through Friday (except Legal Holidays) at2:45 P.M. by Appointment ONLY.

No test will be given to applicants who arrive after 3:00 P.M.

Only ONE test is allowed per person a day.

A group appointment can be made through FDNY certified schools or principals of an organization.

- Subject line of your email must read "Appointment /test type" e.g. Appointment/S-12

- Await confirmation within 24 hours except on weekends and holidays.

- DO NOT submit multiple requests.

The New York City Fire Department has revised the Fire Safety Director On Site Examination for Hotels and Office Buildings to reflect the new changes to the Fire Code.

October 1, 2010 to September 30, 2014: When an FSD or Deputy FSD renew their Certificate of Fitness, they must produce written proof that they attended a new FSD Continuing Education training course called Building Operation, Maintenance and Recordkeeping Training Course. Numerous Fire Code and Building Code topics will be covered. Fire Alarm Systems, Sprinklers, Emergency Power Systems, Portable Fire Extinguishers, Commercial Cooking Systems, Smoke Control Systems, Refrigerating Systems, and Hot Work are among the major topics covered.

Effective July 1, 2010. Computerized training, without live instruction, authorized for EAP and Fire Safety Plan training and drills (Instructional Drills). Must be interactive and include an evaluation of the staff member's understanding of the training materials. Can use this method for up to half of the required training sessions per year.
